Desdemona, A Play About A Handkerchief By Paula Vogel
Desdemona, A Play About A Handkerchief
By Paula Vogel
Directed by Rich Greywolf
April 17-20; 24-27
A Comic Deconstruction of “Othello”
The wrongly accused and suffering wife of Shakespeare’s tragic Moor, Othello, Desdemona has long been viewed as the “victim of circumstance.” Pulitzer-winning playwright, Paula Vogel, introduces Desdemona, Bianca, and Emilia along with their lovers and husband. From love and sex to class, race, labor, privilege, friendship, rivalry, and everything in between, these three examine their lives and what they can make of them. With tongue-in-cheek humor, Vogel raises serious questions as to the role of women through the ages—Desdemona was far from the quivering naif we’ve all come to know.
Tickets are $20 (+fees) online or $25 at the door if still available. Buy tickets here.

The Laramie Project By Moisés Kaufman and the Members of Tectronic Theater Project
The Laramie Project
By Moisés Kaufman
and the Members of Tectronic Theater Project
Directed by Charlotte Keefe
February 20-23; 27-28; March 1-2
A Stunning and Moving Mosaic
In October 1993, a 21-year old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten, and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie Wyoming. His bloody, bruised, and battered body was not discovered until the next day, and he died several days later in the hospital. His name was Matthew Shepard, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay. Members of the Tectonic Theater Project conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of the town over the course of a year and a half. A deeply moving theatrical experience was constructed from these interviews. The Laramie Project is a breathtaking collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.

It’s a wild ride over Niagara Falls as Cass embarks on a journey of self-discovery that has her crossing paths with an alcoholic, a lonely tour-boat captain, a pair of bickering private detectives, and a strange caper involving a gargantuan jar of peanut butter, all of which pushes her perilously close to the water’s edge.

Vanities
Vanities
By Jack Heifner
Directed by Christina Neubrand
August 15-18; 22-25
Comedy
Jack Heifner’s "Vanities" premiered Off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons in 1976 and chronicles the lives of three young women, Joanne, Kathy, and Mary from high school to college, to adulthood. At its core, the story is about friendship. Marriage, children, careers, choice, religion, culture, parent expectations verses personal dreams... Sometimes when you get exactly what you wanted and find out it is not what you needed at all. With a combination of humor, realism, and nostalgia "Vanities" highlights how we can choose to learn, expand, and grow to connect to our authentic selves or allow stereotypes, outside voices, and fear of judgement to trap us in a glass house of our own creation. What will Joanne, Kathy, and Mary choose? Buy tickets here.

Arms & The Man
ARMS & THE MAN by George Bernard Shaw, Directed by Eleanor Russell
Shaw satirizes romantic ideas concerning war, heroism and upward mobility while taking a swing at class and gender politics. The play unfolds in Bulgaria in 1885, towards the end of the very brief Serbo-Bulgarian War. There are soldiers, love triangles, family drama, enemies to lovers, pining, banter, forbidden romance, and chocolate.
